Peek & Cloppenburg

Internal Database Management Platform

2022–2023
Peek & Cloppenburg Database Platform

Overview

Peek & Cloppenburg's internal label printer management system required a complete UI design to support real-time monitoring and control of complex printing processes. The platform connected multiple data sources, displayed live status updates, and allowed users to manage printers, destinations, and print jobs through an intuitive, scalable interface. The goal was to create a reliable, easy-to-navigate web app that fit seamlessly into the company's existing digital ecosystem — echoing the design language of P&C's retail platforms while improving usability for internal operations.

My Role

Lead UI/UX Design

Designed the full interface for the internal database management system, ensuring clarity and efficiency in complex data interactions.

Product Ownership Support

Took initiative in shaping requirements, defining priorities, and making design-driven product decisions in the absence of a dedicated PO.

Stakeholder Communication

Acted as the main design liaison, gathering feedback and aligning business and technical perspectives throughout the project.

Collaboration & QA

Worked closely with the development team to validate design implementation, test functionality, and maintain design quality through delivery.

OAuth SSO integration using GitHub login.

Data Visualization

Clean, modular layouts for viewing and managing live system data.

Responsive Dashboard

Optimized for different screen sizes within the internal tool ecosystem.

Scalable Design System

Consistent visual language inspired by P&C's digital identity.

Process

Starting from an empty slate, I designed the full interface for the internal platform — from early wireframes to final high-fidelity layouts. The focus was on translating complex, technical workflows into a visually clear, usable system that minimized cognitive load for operators.

I developed a consistent component library, optimized layouts for data-heavy screens, and defined interaction patterns for managing printer status, destinations, and job assignments. Frequent design reviews and close collaboration with developers ensured that UI behavior aligned seamlessly with backend functionality and real-time updates.

Team & Collaboration

As the sole designer on the project, I worked closely with the project manager and developers in a tight, collaborative setup. Beyond design, I took on product ownership responsibilities — communicating directly with stakeholders, conducting background research, and helping define priorities and feature directions. Regular check-ins and close collaboration with the development team ensured that design decisions translated smoothly into implementation.

Impact

Transformed a clunky, outdated system into a modern, intuitive interface. Internal users can now manage printers, destinations, and print jobs quickly and efficiently. The clean UI reduced friction, improved workflow clarity, and impressed stakeholders during our midpoint demo.
